Cascate delle Marmore
The Marmore Falls are the highest waterfall in Europe. It features four cascades. The first, the largest, is 90 meters high.
The Marmore Falls are a man-made structure dating back to 271 BC, commissioned by the Roman consul Curius Dentatus. To reclaim the Rieti plain from the marshes created by the Velino River, he built an artificial riverbed (the Cavo Curiano) that channeled the waters toward the Nera River below, creating the spectacular waterfall.
Lago di Piediluco
Above the Marmore Falls is the beautiful Piediluco Lake, which takes its name from the old village that stretches along the coast.
